At the American International School of Cape Town (AISCT), we are dedicated to helping students become global citizens, leaders, and changemakers in their communities. We want them to walk away from their time here with the skills, confidence, and heart to make a positive difference — wherever they go in the world.

What Global Citizenship and Leadership Look Like at AISCT
In today’s fast-changing world, global citizenship and leadership are more than ideas—they are essential skills that help young people succeed. At AISCT, we do not just talk about them; we create an environment where these values come to life every day.
Our students learn in an international community filled with diverse cultures, perspectives, and stories. They step out of their comfort zones, adapt to new environments, and tackle challenges head-on. By embracing new traditions and navigating the complexities of living and learning in diverse communities, they develop the skills to pursue opportunities in education and careers around the globe.
Many international schools emphasize global citizenship and leadership, but the way these values are woven into daily student life varies. At AISCT, these ideals are not just talked about; they are at the core of how we teach, guide, and inspire students to engage with the world in meaningful ways.
Grade 12 Students Lead as Global Citizens and Changemakers
If you want to see how global citizenship and leadership skills are developed at AISCT, just look at the Grade 12 impact projects where students take on meaningful initiatives that showcase their ability to take on real-world problems using their knowledge and creativity to make a meaningful difference.
For example, the Class of 2024 presented projects that reflected their passion for change and their commitment to solving important challenges. From teaching coding to underprivileged children to creating innovative solutions for waste management, their work showcased the kind of forward-thinking leadership we strive to cultivate.
As Nelson Mandela said, “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.” Those words echoed throughout the presentations, inspiring us all.

The Contagious Power of Passionate Youth
What sets these projects apart is the heart behind them. Each initiative reflects the students’ commitment to causes they hold dear. They invest countless hours, driven by a desire to make a tangible difference in the world around them. Their passion is palpable, igniting a sense of inspiration and hope among all who have the privilege of witnessing their presentations.
Not only is this a learning experience for the seniors, but it is also an educational and inspirational experience for the whole AISCT community as they witness each student’s project presentation. Head of School, Mr. Kevin Coordt, shared, “As we reflect on the impact of these projects, we are reminded of the power of youth and the importance of nurturing and elevating their voices. The students have demonstrated that age is no barrier to effecting change; rather, it is a catalyst for innovation and progress.”Inspiring Young Leaders
At AISCT, leadership is not just taught; it is lived. We are committed to supporting and uplifting our students — these young changemakers — as they develop their understanding of the complex issues in the world and their ability to affect change in those arenas.
Through their learning experiences at AISCT, students recognize their roles as global citizens, empowered to go out into the world and create meaningful change. We do not doubt that they will continue applying the knowledge and values they have gained here as they continue their journeys beyond our school walls.
We can build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world together, one impact project and one leader at a time.
